Trial and Error: The Dog Food Switch...

1/30/2021

I can't say I'm thrilled with Pro Plan's Sensitive Skin and Stomach formula either.

It's too bad Pro Plan changed, otherwise we wouldn't be in this pickle.

I'm going to try something new.

Muenster Milling Company

This will be trial and error for awhile until I find something that works for my gang.

Ugh, I was hoping to avoid this...

My Bostons have been doing great on Pro Plan 30/20 Chicken for a number of years now.
It's an all stage food so puppies and adults eat it.
Shiny coats, good stool, no itching, etc.

I've been looking forward to the new look bag for some time now, as it's taken me longer to receive it from Chewy than my Mom who lives 7 miles away.
She's been getting the new bag and isn't experiencing any issues so far.

But... I'm wondering if I'm starting to have some issues, as if they changed something in the formula. I've read they've added probiotics.

Well... we are starting to have itchiness, hot spots, gassiness (more so than normal), paw licking, and other things pop up that I never had happen before.

Things were great (for a few years now) until this new bag we've been working on.

Therefore, I'm stopping the new bag for the meantime and trying the Sensitive Skin/Stomach formula.

I posted on my personal Facebook page wondering if anyone else had experienced any changes like me and the feedback is itchiness, gassiness, not eating the food, etc.

Please bare with me as we try get through this bump in the road.
I'd really like to stick with Purina if possible but we'll see what happens.

I reached out to Purina and received a generic response that it has to be something else to cause the itchiness, not the food.
I'm not so sure about that...

With a different product comes an adult formula and a puppy formula.
I loved the convenience of having both puppies and adult dogs no matter their age on the same thing but that isn't the cases with the formula we are trying out.

I will update on how things go.

We are trying Salmon and Rice.
They also have Lamb and Oatmeal, but we'll see how this flavor goes.

On another note, Oswald's (retired) family told me he started itching and changed his food to the SSS formula and has seen great improvement. When Oswald was here, he didn't have any issues... so there's got to be a correlation with the old bag and new bag change.
